ContextAimee Semple McPherson, the Los Angeles radio evangelist who vanished from a beach in May and returned in June saying she had been kidnapped, is named with four others in a complaint charging conspiracy to defeat justice. Her physician has kept her from the hall of justice; her mother and business manager, Minnie Kennedy, went in her place.

ContextMabel Normand, the Mack Sennett comedienne, and the actor Lew Cody, formerly married to Dorothy Dalton, drove 80 miles to Ventura in the middle of the night and were married by the county recorder an hour after getting their license. Miss Normand had been questioned in the unsolved 1922 killing of director William Desmond Taylor, whom she saw the night he died.
The storm is expected to sweep across southern Florida and into the Gulf with warnings out to Mobile, and the district attorney still means to take Mrs. McPherson into custody as soon as her physician allows it.
