The 1926 anxiety for the Peruvian submarine R-2 · the boat is disabled at sea

As printed: Wireless Flashed to New London Sub Base During Night Mistaken for Distress Signals.

ContextThe R-1 and R-2 were built for the Peruvian navy by the Electric Boat company at Groton, Conn., across the river from the New London submarine base, and were bound for Callao, the port of Lima. Cape Henlopen marks the mouth of Delaware Bay; an SOS is the wireless distress call, and stations ashore clear the air when one is heard.
