ContextOne of the season's heaviest rainstorms struck the metropolitan district at the height of the Labor Day rush, flooding Brooklyn subways waist-deep, washing out pavements and crippling light and power. Two men were killed on the third rail after jumping from a subway train during a panic when a landslide buried two trains, and some 200,000 were marooned at Coney Island.
