ContextRoss Marvin, a Cornell professor, went north with Peary's 1909 expedition toward the Pole and was reported drowned on the return march. The New York publisher George Palmer Putnam, back from Greenland aboard the schooner Morrissey, reports that the Eskimo Kudlooktoo, converted to Christianity, has confessed to shooting Marvin to save a companion he says Marvin had cast out on the ice.
